Questions parents ask.
Straight answers about hypnobirthing, the 1:1 private class and the pregnancy relaxation classes in Richmond.
What is hypnobirthing?
Hypnobirthing is a way of preparing for birth that teaches you how labour works, and gives you breathing and relaxation techniques to stay calm and confident on the day.
You practise the techniques through pregnancy until they're second nature. Your birth partner learns alongside you, with practical ways to help, and you both gain the knowledge to ask good questions and make the decisions that are right for you and your baby.
Is hypnobirthing hypnosis?
Not in the way most people imagine. You're awake, aware and in control throughout. The "hypno" part is deep relaxation: breathing and relaxation techniques you practise in pregnancy, so you can call on calm when you need it in labour.
When should I start?
Ideally between 20 and 30 weeks, so you have time to practise the tools and techniques we cover. But it's never too early or too late to start.
Is it only for a natural birth?
No. The tools work however your baby arrives, including induction and caesarean.
Does my partner need to come?
Having a birth partner who is by your side, and on your side, can be incredibly helpful and empowering. Birth partners are encouraged to come to the 1:1 private class and group classes. Pregnancy relaxation classes are just for you, so you can spend time connecting and bonding with your baby before their birth. I always send you home with activities you can do with your birth partner if you'd like to involve them.
Where are the classes?
Pregnancy relaxation classes are at the Cambrian Community Centre in Richmond. The 1:1 private class comes to you: I teach it in your home, or wherever suits you, anywhere in London.

[Shannon to confirm: whether the 1:1 private class can be taught online, for example over video call.] Pregnancy relaxation classes are in person, at the Cambrian Community Centre in Richmond.
What's the difference between the 1:1 private class and the pregnancy relaxation classes?
The 1:1 private class is the full hypnobirthing course for you and your birth partner; pregnancy relaxation classes are a weekly hour to slow down, connect with your baby and learn skills for a calmer birth.
The 1:1 private class is 10 to 12 hours, just for the two of you, at your pace. It covers how birth works, breathing and deep relaxation, your partner's role, making informed decisions and writing your birth preferences, and using the tools for every kind of birth. You keep specially recorded relaxation audios.
